We the undersigned petition Surrey Heath Borough Council to ensure that there are no changes to Sunday Trading Hours here in Surrey Heath, even if the Chancellor does push for change. More details
More details from petition creator
The Chancellor George Osborne is due to announce tomorrow in the Budget that Sunday Trading Hours are to be relaxed.
I am asking that Surrey Heath makes NO changes to the rules here in Surrey Heath, and that Sunday trading hours stay the same. Shop workers work long hours, often for low pay. This would further erode their right to family time, would likely push down extra Sunday pay, and mean that people who enjoy a quieter town on a Sunday are disrupted.
Shops are open long enough, with many already being 24 hours.
This petition has been rejected because:
- It was outside the remit or powers of the council
Additional information about this rejection:
The Council cannot make such a decision within the bounds of the existing legislation. Nor can it fetter any future decision making. If this legalisation does come into force in the way indicated in the press, at that point the Council may have the power to decide whether or not to adopt the provisions extending trading hours. In accordance with the Council's Petition Scheme the Petition is therefore rejected as inappropriate, as it is outside the Council's current remit.
